Bathroom is the place that I think needs highest percentage of cleanliness. Although it is the smallest room of your house but variety of products used are in huge number. This abundance makes it necessary to make your bathroom greener. Harmful toxins are having great place in bathroom so make sure that air in bathroom is clean and the products used are eco-friendly.
Here are few ideas to make your bathroom greener:
• Bathroom clothing: Organic cotton clothes are best for converting your towels and shower curtains into best option for environment and your skin too. Many other choices are there for selection of best and safe bathroom clothing. One is Hemp which proves to be best for curtains and linens as it is has properties like absorbent, durable and mildew resistant. Next preference is Bamboo which is generally used for all bathmates, towel and other linens as it is environment-friendly. Bamboo also has properties like renewable and mildew resistance in it.
• Plumbing and Electrical appliances: The energy in form of gas, water and electricity are consumed in bathroom daily at very high rate. So, this aspect is also very important one to be converted into eco-friendly, safe and effective. Start using CFLs bulbs to minimize the consumption of electricity and other bulbs which are available in this respect. Plumbing can be made eco-friendly by keep a check on leakage in bathroom taps and flush to save water wastage. As we all know water is one of limited resources and so it’s our duty to lessen its misuse. Various companies related to plumbing are making dual flush toilets and water free toilets for supporting hygienic environment.
• Personal products: These are the things which makes your bathroom complete. Personal products can be easily switched over to green products as vast ranges are available in the market. Products like shampoo, toothbrush, soaps, cosmetics, etc. comes in this category. First step is to check ingredients of these products. Continue using the particular product only if its ingredients are non-toxic, safe and eco-friendly.
• Floors and Walls: The paints you use on your bathroom walls contain very harmful gases and with that we inhale those chemicals daily. The paints contain VOC’s which is very injurious to health as well as environment. For safety point of view, you can switch to latex paints or milk paints. Flooring can also be made green or by just only using tiles, wood, cork or linoleum options for bathroom. Generally the tiles are made up of natural clay and are best for making bathroom greener.
